Welcome
to the world of Armando Chacon, a
local South Florida Artist who was born and raised in
Guatemala City,
Guatemala. He is a young surrealist artist who was greatly
influenced by various masters of the Surreal movement,
in particular Salvador Dali. From a young age, Armando
also studied Magritte, Miro and Chirico which helped him
to gain an understanding of how to establish composition,
perspective, and color harmony. The mood and psychological
meanings inherent in these works, which were symbolic of
the 1920’s and 30’s, have influenced Armando
to use his works to express similar representations of
our present times. One example is the work “America’s
Reality”, which is based the events of September
11, 2001. The mood of this work identified with the melancholy
and sorrow of a country in pain.
Armando
is also influenced by the ancient glyphs of the Mayan
culture. His paintings combine
surreal landscapes with uniquely created symbols he terms
the “Soul” and the “Spirit”.
The most apparent symbol is the blue-green sphere which
embodies the soul of an individual. The soul is a fragile
and liquid object that symbolizes how delicate our existence
is in this world. The spirit, which includes an assortment
of earth toned, hard-edged objects, represents an individual’s
connection with God. These geometric shapes, which often
go hand-in-hand with the soul, suggest that they both
rely on each other for their existence. Their union symbolizes
how the spirit guards and protects the soul from life’s
mysterious and changing ways. This connection between
the spirit and the soul is based on Armando’s sense
of spirituality. His belief in God has created a greater
sense of meaning in his life, which is evident in his
works.
Inner Realism is a term coined by some colleagues to
describe this unique style in which Armando’s thoughts
and feelings are represented in a unique visual form.
Through his works, he also strives to have others identify
and
relate to his inner thoughts and search within themselves for deeper meaning.
Inner Realism has allowed Armando to connect with the viewer on a personal
level which remains unmatched by spoken words. He hopes that you connect with
his works as well, so enjoy the ride! |
